Indian-Origin Parag Agrawal replaces Jack Dorsey as Twitter CEO

Parag Agrawal, who was born in India and is now the CEO of Twitter,
is making headlines in his home country as many people rejoice over
his selection.

The 37-year-old took over from Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, who
announced his resignation on Monday.


Mr. Agrawal joined Twitter in 2011 and worked his way up to
become the company's chief technology officer.
An IIT Bombay graduate, he later pursued a doctorate from Stanford
University.


He oversaw Twitter's technological strategy as CTO, directing efforts
to "increase development pace while improving the state of machine
learning across the company," according to the firm.


Parag has been behind every critical decision that helped turn this
company around. He's curious, probing, rational, creative,
demanding, self-aware, and humble. My trust in him as Twitter CEO is
bone-deep." Wrote Jack Dorsey, the co-founder and now ex-CEO of
Twitter wrote on Monday.


Parag Agrawal tweeted a note shortly after the announcement,
adding he was "excited for the future."


"Thank you, Jack. I'm honored and humbled. And I'm grateful for
your continued mentorship and friendship," he wrote. "I joined this
company 10 years ago when there were fewer than 1,000
employees. While it was a decade ago, those days feel like yesterday
to me."

He has worked in several research jobs at Microsoft, Yahoo, and US
telecoms major AT&T before joining Twitter.


All of Mr Agrawal's past tasks were hidden from prying eyes, but with
his current position, he has gone from relative obscurity to a big
public figure overnight, and his every action will be scrutinized.
